Today is Day One….

life holisticAt 43 years old, I have decided to go on a journey that will most likely rock me to the very core of my being, exposing everything that is wrong…while at the same time, producing diligence, peace, patience, and satisfaction with my inner self as well as my life.

Today is the first day of my ‘holistic approach to life’ — That’s what I’ve decided to call it.

Over the years I’ve floated in and out of a form of Christianity…I’ve also at other times, attempted to become more physically fit… Yet, on completely separate occasions I’ve dabbled in the reality that I must certainly be (partially at least), a being of my own creation. Whatever I allow into by brain, either by reading, blankly staring at the television, or through my own misguided and undisciplined conversations, are ALL a part of who I am. Like a lump of clay being formed by the Potter, I have allowed myself through years of reckless abandon, to become the person who I am today.

Finally, I have come to the conclusion that life works holistically… There is a delicate balance that must be carefully maintained in order to achieve the type of life and peace that is truly fulfilling. I’m no spiritual guru…far from it. But nonetheless, today is DAY ONE. [click to continue…]

DAY 3 – P90X

by Robinana on February 3, 2010

A lot of people have been asking me if P90X really works. Well, here’s the deal. I’m on DAY 3. That’s not very far into it. But I am following the system to a T….or maybe to an X (bad joke). Anyway, I have already changed all my eating habits, cut out carbs and feel 100% better. I DO NOT experience that afternoon slump anymore. And it’s only day 3. I can only imagine what day 30 will feel like. The point is this…Yes, P90X works. It is an extreme and very difficult program that will push you to the limits of yourself. It’s not for the weak. Tony Horton will kick your ass every day, but you’ll love it…trust me. I’m the girl who used to do the 10 minute mile in High School. I have always had ZERO endurance. Tony has a way of encouraging you, pushing you and making you want to keep “pushing play” on those DVDs. And once you get some energy back in your life you will undoubtedly start doing even more than P90X. I went on a bike ride this morning after getting my ass kicked with Plyometrics last night. That doesn’t sound like the old me.

If you need a dose of inspiration to get your butt moving, I challenge you to watch this short video from beginning to end. The girl in the video starts out very heavy. There are progress pictures all the way through. All I can say is by the time you get to the last few photos (where she’s bringin it in her high heels) you are going to be inspired. I have huge respect for her efforts and I personally will keep on going! (Oh, the video embed has been disabled, so when you click on it, just click on the next link that says GO TO YOUTUBE and you’ll be taken right to it) Have fun and keep PRESSING PLAY!

Curl, Press, Push Up & Lunge Workout

by Robinana on February 3, 2010

This chick rocks! Talk about girl power! This little mini workout will kick your ass. I love to find exercises for girls that include weights and help to build long, lean muscles. For the guys, you can simply use more weight than she is. It’ll kick your ass too!

This one hits most of your muscles with one exercise. I like to do it during the day, since I do my P90X workout in the evening with my husband. Since I’ve changed my eating habits completely (just had sardines and beets for breakfast) I have found that I get a HUGE ENERGY SURGE at around 1 pm that I absolutely HAVE TO do something with. Since I’m not into running but I still want to get my heart rate up, this exercise is golden. Watch the video and then read the instructions that follow it.

Sardines…The Secret of Life

by Robinana on February 2, 2010

sardinesOkay,  I realize that I’m going to completely gross some people out here…but I love sardines. I haven’t eaten any in about 5 years but since I started my P90X workout, I started thinking about all of my meal plans. I’ve totally revamped the way I eat. It didn’t really cost any more to eat this way, so if you’re using that as your excuse…nice try. I’m currently in Phase I of my P90X meal plans, so I’m on my “fat shredder” diet. Doesn’t really seem like a diet, since I’m allowed 2,500 calories per day. I could only get in 1,500 yesterday. When you don’t have carbs or fat in your diet, it’s kind of hard to pack in the calories….plus I puked 50 minutes into my workout. I thought I’d be a hot shot and end my weight lifting with a heavier set of weights. I did finish my last set, but also yacked much of my evening meal. My husband laughed at me and said, “Oh, now you can probably eat again. You just lost about 300 calories.” …nice.

Anyway, back to sardines. I’m taking a holistic approach to this whole P90X transformation thing. Mind, spirit, body cleansing. I’m really psyched and I can already see the difference in my energy level. With the meal plan a lot of protein (5 servings per day) is consumed and I knew I didn’t want to eat chicken breast and tuna for every serving…I also knew that I needed to get my Omega 3 into my diet somewhere….and then the light went on, SARDINES! If you aren’t aware of the nutritional benefits of these tiny little canned fish, here’s the scoop: [click to continue…]

Today is Day One, Again…Just Press Play

by Robinana on February 1, 2010

Today is day one, again. Why? Umm, well, because basically yesterday did not go so well. Regardless of our good intentions, if we have a family and teenage children….often our plans will be thwarted. Am I passing blame? I don’t think so. Ultimately I am responsible for my choices.

p90x day one againI introduced the P90X system to my family and I think they thought this would be a whim. Of course, I am not limiting food content to my children but I am no longer buying Lucky Charms, bags of Cheddar Cheese (I think my family has the ability to top ANYTHING with lots of cheese. Traditionally, we go through 2 bags per week of shredded cheddar), and containers of Sour Cream. Isn’t everything better with butter, cheddar and a big dolup of sour cream? Now, we are not an overweight family. So you may be wondering why all the changes. Mainly, I’ve noticed my energy level starts dropping around 2 pm. I think it’s pretty safe to say that is true with 99% of Americans. I want to experience an increased level of  mental focus and cognitive function as well as athletic ability and a toned, fit body. Make sense? It does to me. [click to continue…]
